Hi I'm Joyce and have been a member of NRAS for 5 yrs but just decided to join forum so here goes.

I'm 61yrs young with a daughter of 34 and a son of 30 who has given me 2 lovely grandsons.
I was diagnosed 16 yrs ago and am still having trouble coming to terms with it.
Have a both hips and knees replaced as well as both big toe joints, currently on 25mg methotrexate, plaquinil, folic acid and co-dydramol also at xmas had infusion of retuximab.
Feel pretty lousy all the time as my rt knee which was the first to be replaced 4yrs ago is still giving me pain thinking of asking for referral for scans.

Anyway enough of the self pity I enjoy travel with my husband(we celebrated 39yrs anniv yesterday) gardening and seeing my grandsons of 5 and 3, gave up working in card and gift shop 10 yrs ago when things got bad, previous to that was an art technician in a comp school.

Hope to take part in online discussions now have taken the plunge to join up.

Look forward to hearing from you all

Hi Joyce

Welcome to the forum. A great place to be for support and information; lots of folk, lots of knowledge and a wealth of tried and tested experiences! Glad you have joined us!

I'm Lyn, married to Mike, we have four children (well I call them children but perhaps it's time to stop!), Abby 23, Ian and Jake 18, and Louis 16. All four in various stages of education! We live in Thornton Cleveleys in north west Lancashire. I was diagnosed with RA 23 years ago and have since run the gamut of medication (although more options are popping up now and again thankfully!) and had lots of surgical procedures along the way. Currently on Enbrel, Prednisolone and Naproxen, (I'm about to restart methotrexate after a break due to neutropenia), and a wagon load of pain killers! But heyho...

Keep posting, look forward to getting to know you ThumpUp

My son, Ian, completed the BUPA Great North Run on 15th September running for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS). You can read his story at http://www.justgiving.com/ianlukewilson

Hello Joyce

Its lovely you have joined us here, you will get so much support and advice. You certainly have had a difficult time over the years, and so hope that the infusion treatment really helps calm it all down. I think getting a referral about your knee is a must, you have been suffering far too long, pain pulls you down so debilitating.

I m 55 and have had RA just over two years and for the last 18 months have been endeavouring to get it under control. but as yet without success. After failing on leflunomide went onto infliximab but isn t really working, asked to change over to mtx so hope see an improvement. Its always such a waiting game to see if the drugs help.

Really pleased you have taken the plunge and joined us Smile

Hope you are having a good weekend with your family.

Smile Hi Joyce

Great to meet you. I am Sheila aged 60, married to Dave with 2 wonderful sons aged 28 and (nearly) 25. I was diagnosed 9 years ago and currently on mxt. You have made a good decision to join the forum. It is a great place to air your views, ask questions, have a moan and make friends who all know what you are going through. Definitely get your knee checked out again. It shouldn't be like that now surely!. Good luck and I look forward to speaking to you again.
